Laptop Fan

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop and I recently noticed that the CPU fan isn't spinning. I unplugged the 3-pin connector and used my multimeter to check if the fan is getting power. My results: Red-47v Yellow-3.3v Black-Ground
Why is the red line so high? It doesn't seem normal.

I have a friend that had a similiar problem,I hate Dell so im the wrong person to ask.I also have a Dell laptop Latitude nothing but problems and the one before that.

I took out the fan and tested it, it works fine. So I rewired it to get power from a usb port. Problem solved. Thread can be closed.

The other thing to note is that the CPU fan doesn't always spin on laptops. It will throttle up or down (even off) depending on CPU load. I have an M1530 with a fairly fast 2.5 GHz CPU and even that system keeps the fan off most of the time. It's not a flaw, but the intended design of the fan. If the leads on the motherboard aren't working and the fan NEVER spins up (which you didn't specify) then yes, moving it to USB was a good choice.
