virus : A computer virus is a computer program that can copy itself[1] and infect a computer. The term "virus" is also commonly but erroneously used to refer to other types of malware, including but not limited to adware and spyware programs that do not have the reproductive ability. A true virus can spread from one computer to another (in some form of executable code) when its host is taken to the target computer; for instance because a user sent it over a network or the Internet, or carried it on a removable medium such as a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB drive.[2]
Viruses can increase their chances of spreading to other computers by infecting files on a network file system or a file system that is accessed by another computer.[3][4]
As stated above, the term "computer virus" is sometimes used as a catch-all phrase to include all types of malware, even those that do not have the reproductive ability. Malware includes computer viruses, computer worms, Trojan horses, most rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware and other malicious and unwanted software, including true viruses. Viruses are sometimes confused with worms and Trojan horses, which are technically different. A worm can exploit security vulnerabilities to spread itself automati

Viruses are sometimes confused with worms and Trojan horses, which are technically different. A worm can exploit security vulnerabilities to spread itself automatically to other computers through networks, while a Trojan horse is a program that appears harmless but hides malicious functions. Worms and Trojan horses, like viruses, may harm a computer system's data or performance. Some viruses and other malware have symptoms noticeable to the computer user, but many are surreptitious or simply do nothing to call attention to themselves. Some viruses do nothing beyond reproducing themselves.cally to other computers through networks, while a Trojan horse is a program that appears harmless but hides malicious functions. i recommed never ever disk defrag your harddrive til your virus free because if u dont the disk defrag will put the virus in these file even more and will you maleware virus remover like mcfree norton etc its going to be harder for scanner to find these when that happens it will causes mayham at startup lol so if u want healthy pc/laptop

1 . disk defragment daily
2. keep update
3. keep your firewall on all times
4. watch what you are downloading

i didnt mention startup you can stop progrrames from loading at startup the method is
startbar searchbar then typre in system configuration

disk defrag : startbar, all programes,Accessories, system tools

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you regarding defragging every day. There's no way your disk will get defragmented enough in a single day to warrant defragging that often. The time spent defragging will NEVER be regained by any performance gain. Personally, I think once a month is enough which I'm sure others might disagree with but once a week should be more than often enough.

I'll defrag when my disk gets to somewhere between 10-15% of fragmentation. and the time it takes to get there will depend on how much I use my computer.

Sorry, I thought URLs were ok...

URL's are great and encouraged, but copying and pasting an entire Wikipedia article when it can just be linked with highlights from it is a little much don't you think?

De-fragmentation is automatic in Linux...

[Edit]

Wait a minute...everyone would like a fast computer, but I don't think they would like a virus!

I also disagree with your statement that a virus can spread. A virus is can not spread, it can not reproduce itself as well. A virus is just changed or edited code inside of a program. To get rid of the virus, you get rid of the section of code. A worm is the reproductive malware, the term used to describe all of these things that affect computers. A worm can spread across a network, or from device to device.

Andcan be with programs in windows, but i know what you mean :)
