well, the lowest cost would probably be to buy an old Pentium 4 box and install a UNIX-based server operating environment on it, and run it as a file server?

Thing is, he wants 20TB+ of storage space. I don't think it's the thing that you reallllly cut corners on, haha

Cheaping out really isn't the way to go in this siuation.

(you and your customer wan't reliability).

That said, there wouldn't be a lot wrong with using low spec hardware (that'd be a lot cheaper).
