trying to free up space

im using windows xp and i'm in the add/remove programs list which is practically full of windows updates and internet explorer updates etc.
what can i actually remove without having any problems further on?
i also use firefox but i havent removed ie because i don't know if i should or not

I would recommend to download and run JAM Software - Windows Freeware this will scan your computer and find the folders which are using up most of the disk space on your system, You can then work out which files you need to delete. If you need help deciding what you can and can not delete post back here

i also dont think firefox will be using much disk space

Firefox is about 30MB. (30.4 with my addons)

If you don't ever use IE for anything (some online courses etc only work on IE) there's no harm is disabling/removing it.

Don't remove IE. You probably won't be able to, anyway.
delete videos that you have. They take up most spaces.

If you disable IE in windows features it recompresses the IE files.

Then defrag.
