a few people here have Hex i7s, and i know a few have 1055Ts since i think i recommended it to them.

Hex means 6, and there are some AMD CPU's that are 6 cores, for example the X6 series.

Hmm, as far as performance goes however, from what I've heard and read, the performance is no more than an Intel equvilant I7 in real useage.

It should mean however that you can multitask more, because they'll be more cores to split the load. Depending on the program also, you should get some added boosts from having 6 cores, as opposed to 4.

But you also must take note that it isn't always the core amount that specifies if it's any quicker. The speed of the CPU also matters (ghz), and other factors, like cache's/architectures each brand uses.
 
You'll also have to figure in an OS capable of running it and software to take advantage of the amount of cores.
