Hey all...new to the forums and pc gaming. I have a question about comparing two machines. One is a laptop other a desktop, my goal is to play most up to date games. I love the idea of a laptop, but I dont know if it is comparable to the desktop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...the two models are: Straight from the ads:

Gateway FX P7805u Laptop
Windows 7 Pro - Genuine
- 4GB Ram
- 280 GB HD - Only OS installed, nothing else.
- Nvidia Geforce 9800M GTS Cuda - 1GB
- Intel centrino 2. 2.26 ghz
- HDMI and Firewire 1934
- 17" screen 1920x1200

OR This desktop
Intel Quad Core 3.0Ghz /w direct heatpipe contact stack cooler Q6600 OC
MSI p43-c51 motherboard
8GB DDR3, 500GB hard drive
EVGA 8800 GT 512MB
OCZ modular 500W
PSU Antec 300 Chassis
SATA LG DVD-RW /w lightscribe

without a dout: it is the desktop that is strongest.

still the 8800 gt is an old card. you are gonna be playing all new games, but you will have to set the graphics low in the newer games.

+1

you could probably put a GT 460 or something in for an extra couple hundred after you buy it if you find the 8800gt is too oldish for you.

(again, upgradability is another feature of a desktop that you get significantly less of with a laptop.)
