I have two PCs with dual core and one PIII PC on the same network which uses TimeWarner 10MB/s interenet(measured ~18-19MB/s).
my problem is that the old PIII shows only ~5.5MB/s, why is that?
PIII-1GHZ, runs WinXP Pro with 1.5GB ram(using in the garage).
all three, are wireless. router is a Belkin 54G+

If it's in the garage and it's wireless (assuming the router is somewhere in the house) then it's going to have a weak signal and slower speeds because it's furthest away from the router.

jma is spot on, we have 50Mg internet but wirelessly a new laptop only gets about 8Mb due to the wireless, get a 25 metre lead and run it to the garage, its that easy.

it's not the distance because I have tried it out next to the router also.
when I played with the PIII, the router it was less then 2ft away and it had the same speed checked on speakeasy.

Exactly, I never said it was the distance its the ability of the wireless to carry the complete signal thats why a wire is better.

you think that it could be something with Windows Xp? I'm using Vista and 7 on the other pcs.
by the way the xp it's an nlited(stripped down) version.
