quick disk drive help

my parents laptop disk drive no longer shows up under my computer or in hardware settings, the drive still powers up opens and closes and seems to try and load the disk would this just be a drier issue?

Is this on your desktop that you have listed? What OS are you running? Or is it on a laptop, in which case, whats the model # and is the manufacturer Dell by any chance?
