hi, I have an A8V-VM motherboard and I stuck 4GBs in it (4x1GB). In the BIOS->System information it says 4096 installed but only 3072mb usable. I presume that this motherboard supports a 64 bit memory mapper, to allow 4GB, so how do I enable it. A trick traul through the BIOS menus doesn't hint at any such functionality?

Any hints?
Thanks
Thomas

I know I need a 64bit OS :p and I'm using one on the machine. Like the BIOS menus, the OS detects 3 GB. I'm interested in utilizing the full 4GB of RAM.

Test your modules. Either that, or one is inserted incorrectly. I actually ran into a problem similar to this with my work PC - I installed 6 GB and it was only showing 4GB in the OS, but the BIOS was showing the full 6. Turns out the specifications signal from the DIMM was working, but something else on the module wasn't. Sent the stick back to the manufacturer and got a replacement, voila. All 6GB were visible again.
