Hello

I have a Transcend Sata external harddrive its 450GB, and its just gone on a year.
I use it to watch movies and store them.

Now, recently when im watching a movie it will get stuck for a few seconds (Usually 5-10) and the hardrive makes a high pitched sound. I think that it may be getting longer. Ive scanned for viruses and there were none.

What does this mean?

Click accessories.
Then click command prompt
Type chkdsk d: or whatever the disk is in your machine.
Let it run and it will turn off bad sectors.
If you have bad sectors, buy a new drive.

Remove the hard drive from the external enclosure and install it inside your computer.

Maybe its just worth buying a new one? Im watching a movie at the moment, im 1:45 in at the moment and it hasnt got stuck. But it doesnt allways.

Remove the hard drive from the external enclosure and install it inside your computer.

I have a laptop though?

In that case you can't use the hard drive, unless you put it in another external enclosure.

By all means buy another external if you wish, all i'm trying to say is that the hard drive in your current enclosure is fine.
