Hello all. New to the forums and I have kind of a basic and easy question but I'm not very familiar with the specifics of upgrading computer hardware. I want to upgrade my RAM in my computer. It currently has 4gb and I would like to take it to 8GB. Here is the link to my computer

Its the Gateway FX7026. I do a lot of gaming and kind of want to be able to do more things at once. As I understand it RAM is the way to go for that kind of upgrade. I have upgraded the graphics card to a Nvidia GT 240. So my question is what type to get and any suggestions on a price efficient upgrade. It doesn't have to be top of the line just solid and reliable. Hope you guys can help. Thanks :)

Well, before you do anything, you have to determine how much RAM the motherboard can support. Not all motherboards can support how ever much RAM you want. Go here: Gateway Computer, Server, Portable, Consumer Electronic Product Support and enter in your serial # and find the specification sheet and it should tell you the max RAM supported.

Then you need to find out the type of RAM. Like if it's 1333 DDR3 or 1333 DDR2 RAM. Then you can start shopping. Luckily (for you, haha) I found out the type of RAM and how much is supported.

8GB is the MAX and in order to utilize the full 8GB you need to have a 64-bit OS.

These should be good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134192

Simply get 4 of them and you've got 8GB!
