i was wanting to uprade my system and was wondering if i got a new board, cpu, and power supply, if i could just plug my hard drive in and run it, or if id have to reinstall my os. any help? please and thanks

You would have to reinstall your OS

You can also do an OS repair. Pop in the OS CD, go through the motions and when you get the option to install the OS select 'Repair'. This just re-installs the OS files and leaves all your saved stuff alone.

Note that a Repair installation is an old Windows XP thing. If you're running Vista or 7, you'll have to reinstall the OS from scratch for best results. There is no "repair install" option for Vista or 7.
