Internet 'will not display' only certain web pages

Have recently set my old modem up at a new address and for som reason the 'Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage' message comes up only on certain websites. I can still access most pages but some pages I use often will not come up. I am assuming I have a setting wrong somewhere. Have disabled addons and tried downloading firefox and no change. Any advice would be wonderful!!!

check c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file to be clear

Can you be more specific about what sites don't come up? Can you ping those sites -- START>RUN>type CMD>in the black box type PING WWW.GOOGLE.COM (or whatever website you are trying to go to).
