RAM Compatibility / Efficiency

I have had this computer for almost 4 years now.

As of now I have 4 GB of RAM (CORSAIR XMS2 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 PC2 6400 [1 GB x 4])

My motherboard is ASUS M2N SLI AM2 NFORCE 560

I would like to replace my RAM with DDR3 RAM because I heard it is more efficient and faster.

I am aware that I will have to replace all 4 and that I cannot mix and match.

Basically my question is, can I upgrade the RAM as long as it is 240 pins, or are there any other limitations or compatibility issues with my system or motherboard?

DDR2 and DDR3 (Double Data Rate) run at different frequencies, speeds and channels

DDR SDRAM = x8 speed

DDR2 SDRAM = x16 speed

DDR3 SDRAM = x32 speed

(speed compared to non-DDR SDRAM)

basically, theres no way to put DDR3 in a DDR2 compliant mobo. Unless you upgrade the mobo you're limited to DDR/DDR2
