screen pixels and black screen.

Hey guys I just built a computer for my friend about 2 weeks ago this week (3rd week) it freezes and has pixels distorted screen then turn black and freezes. did the video card get blown up? so I told my friend to use the on-board video card from the motherboard he gets these pop-up saying his ATI drivers is not updated so we installed the drivers and when we restarted we get this irql_not_less_or equal Windows 7 Blue Screen. Is this caused by the motherboard?
