Building First desktop. Need verification if it is okay.

Hi, i'm shortly going to build my first desktop. It will be a mid range gaming desktop and my budget is $1400. I have already looked out parts and prices from www.pccasegear.com.au and i shall list them now. I just need to know a good power supply and if anyone has any recommendations on the the parts i have selected or if they wouldn't work just feel free to let me know. Thanks

My old PC was fried by a power surge a few month ago I have been able to salvage the Gigabyte 9800 GT 512MB GPU and im not sure whether to buy another one like it and SLI them or opt for the graphics cards i have put. Any suggestions?
Oh and the SSD is for the OS and maybe some games
Could you recommend any PSU's?

But if i go with a ATI card, that means i have to get an AMD CPU and AMD MOBO?
And is the GPU a 2 in 1 card?

And will the PSU fit my case? And is 600W enough?

Everything with that build is fine but go with a GTX 460, it'll perform better than the measly GT 430's.

You can run any graphics card on any motherboard regardless of chipset and CPU. When you start to run multiple cards is when you have to consider the motherboard chipset.

600W is plenty power for this rig and it will fit inside the case too.

Thats a tough one. They have similar performance so it goes down to what features you want, multi-monitor support on the HD6850 or PhysX GTX 460.

Personally i'm liking Thermaltake's Frio heatsink and fan set up at the moment.

So you have the LGA1156 CPU's - i5 760 and the i7 870, and the LGA1366 CPU - the i7 950.

The i5 760 and the i7 870 have the PCI-E controller and dual-channel DDR3 SDRAM Memory controller on die. However the i5 760 does NOT have Hyper-Threading but the i7 870 does. The i5's can be used with the H55/H57 or P55/Q57 'boards and the LGA1156 i7's can be used with the P55/Q57 'boards.

The i7 950 doesn't have the PCI-E controller on board but has a triple-channel DDR3 SDRAM Memory controller on die, Hyper-Threading, and runs on X58 'boards.

Im thinking GTX 460 as im only using one 22inch monitor for the desktop.

Ahk, so now im thinking the i7 870, because of the hyperthreading and im getting a P55 motherboard anyway. So the hyperthreading would make a large performance increase over the non hyperthreaded cores yea? I am also thinking because the Aussie Dollar is almost on par with the US Dollar, i can buy stuff from newegg.com and get it alot cheaper than buying it here. For example the i7 860 (i think it's got a 0.13Ghz decrease in clock speed than the i7 870) but if i'm OC'ing it won't really matter yea?) is priced here at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115214 which is an American store and the i7 870 is priced here at http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_346_931&products_id=12406 which puts the one at newegg $50 cheaper at only a loss of 0.13Ghz. I think it is worth it, and only puts it $50 more than the i5 760.
And also, if i were to get the i7 950, i would have to get an X54 MOBO which cost a hell of a lot more, which will go over my budget that i'm trying to stick to

Hyper-Threading can make a difference when your running heavy multi-threaded applications and don't worry about the clock speeds; these overclock brilliantly, so the slower i7 860 can be clocked to i7 870 speeds and more.

If you go for the i7 950 then you will need an X58 board for it. But if you find a i7 920, somewhere, going real cheap then remember it can be clocked to i7 950 speeds very easily.

Basically go for the best deal.

I'll gladly recommend Corsair brand PSU. I have one in my rig from '08 and still working great. The fan is 120mm and is variable speed. I can actually watch mine spin it's so slow, sorta like a ceiling fan on medium setting. This power supply is also modular so you will have less wiring clutter in your box.
