i want to make a network fire wall for my home network


cable modem network firewall wireless router out to network

set up is

i have it set up as cable modem to server,server to wireless router and wireless router to other computers.

the problem im having is i cant connect to the server from the network after all this is set up.

im thinking is a 3rd nic card back to the wireless router.

i know it might sound confusing but i don't know how else to explain it.


sever is just another computer for network storage and minecraft for a few friends

try to understand on what stage it breaks by disconnecting one by one and try to put some comas

How is your server performing routing? And do you have the server plugged into the WAN port of your router? What do you mean 3rd nic card to router? Does the server have 3 of them? Or are they from 3 separate computers talking to router?

the server has 3 nic cards i want to hook my cable modem to it directly and then from the server to the wireless router and out to the other computers.but when i do this i cant connect to the server from my desktop for file sharing so i put a 3rd nic card in it to go back to the router and give access to my files.

I'll start with the basics. Can you ping the router from any of the wireless computers?
