Deciding on a Video Card

So I am building my first computer and I cannot decide which video card would be the better pick, as far as performance and reliability, any advice?

EVGA 015-P3-1480-AR GeForce GTX 480 (Fermi) 1536MB

OR

Radeon HD 5970 (Hemlock) 2GB 512

OR would another video card be better?

No official budget, just wondering what would be best for performance (gaming)

The 5970 keeps the lead in most benchmarks I've seen. Price difference, there isn't much TBH, so might as well fork up the few bucks missing for the 5970.
