Hi everyone, I am about to start building my first computer. Im really trying to make this about as fast as any computer can be so price is not a huge issue. These are the hardware components I have picked out so far.

If there is anything you would recommend that is better, anything that is not compatible, or possibly there is a much cheaper option that doesn't compromise too much performance, please please let me know!
Thank you so much!

Power supply-- 1200 watt power supply
Motherboard-- ASUS Rampage III Extreme LGA 1366
Processor-- Intel i7 Extreme 980X 3.33GHz
processor cooler-- ????
RAM Memory-- 24gb (6x4) 1600 MHz DDR3 (kingston)
video card-- AMD Radein 5970 2gb x2
Sound card-- z-fi titanium fatality champion
memory-- crucial RealSSD 256gb x 1 Western Digital Caviar® 500gb x1
optical drive-- 10x blue ray reader
operating software --windows 7 ultimate

Also, not too sure on a case, any recommendations?

Really any new game, I kinda want all the hardware to last awhile. Anything to replace that would make it a little less overkill?

How much less ram do you think? and I don't really have a fixed budget but i don't want anything too ridiculous.
Also, is the processor I have really necessary? Like I can i find something about as good for less money?
And will the radeon video cards work with the intel processor?

if you can wait for bulldozer/sandybridge to come out in like a month then that would be the way to go but if you the build now then
i7/6970/6GB ram would run almost every game out there

hes right
but i also applaud the awesomeness of this build :D

just go with 9GB of ram (3x 2GB sticks, 3x 1GB sticks)
W7 will fit on a 60 GB SSD for a boot disk
then you can RAID any other HDDs for storage
or just slap them in, and no RAID
