mechwarrior 3 problem

i know that by now this game in a relic
but i still like it
and i would still like to play it
however it wont play on my current machine
and im getting really
i get to where its supposed to be starting in the mech
and the only thing i see is my aiming dot multiplying itself all over my screen
and the screen where all of the scenery would be is just a black pit
i have a hud and everything
but thats all i have
that and alot of frustration

Specs:
Q6700 Core 2 Quad 2.75 GHz
4 GB DDR2
8800GT
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Gamer
and Vista 64-bit Home Premium

any other questions ask
any ideas are greatly appreciated

im using it now
could be Vista 64-bit?
