So I finally built my new PC and here are the specs:

X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Socket AM3

GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s

G.SKILL F3-12800CL6D-4GBPI Pi Series 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL6-8-6-24

Coolermaster Silent Pro 1000W SLI ATX12V 24PIN Active PFC PCI-E 135mm Fan

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus

Antec 1200 case

I did a 3D Mark Vantage test using 1680X1050 resolution and got like 14000 points. Is that normal? Also I am not seeing much of a change in computing power than what I had before. For example unzipping, opening programs etc. How can I check my PC performance to make sure I am getting what I paid for? Thanks.

I also don't see a hard drive mentioned. That'll come into play on a lot of things, especially 3DMark and unzipping. If you're using an older drive or one that isn't up to the task, that'll impact scores as well.

Why such a powerful power supply? Doing SLI/CF down the line with lots of storage?
