monitoring software

Anyone using software to monitor home PC activity? I just installed Family Cyber Alert to keep an occasional eye on what my kids are up to online. Not so concerned about porn unless it becomes excessive, but there are plenty of ways a kid today can find some kind of trouble online, and I just think this tool will help to give me more of a clue as to what I need to be talking with them about to teach them to use the Internet more safely and responsibly.

Curious what other user experiences are - I'm still debating whether to let them know I have the software, I see pros and cons on both sides really.

I think you have to let them know. Otherwise they will consider it spying on them if you bust them about something they were doing.

I wouldn't bother letting them know.

If they aren't dong anything wrong, then it doesn't matter.
If they are, that's why the program is there

Thanks for the input. As I talk to people or explore any online discussions, it seems to be pretty divided as to letting the kids know or not about this software. I guess you just follow your own sense of what is appropriate and necessary within your own family environment... However I'm encouraged that most people agree that paying attention to what kids are up to online and talking with them about it is a good idea.
