I have 2 sticks of 2gb a-data ram, but windows is telling me I have 3.25. I just upgraded to vista from xp, but xp told me the same thing, I just assumed the upgrade would fix it.

Yeah, 32 bit will only show that much RAM,
Vista editions of 64 were as shown below
  • Vista Basic 64-bit: 8 GB
  • Vista Home Premium 64-bit: 16 GB
  • Vista Business/Enterprise/Ultimate 64-bit: 128+ GB

Full edition is just if you don't have a previously installed windows OS. Upgrade will take you from your current vista and upgrade it to Win 7.

For sure, thanks.

edit: If I did buy the upgrade, would I still be able to do a clean install?

No, you won't be able to do a clean install with an upgrade. Also, you can't upgrade from a 32 bit version of Vista to a 64 bit version of 7.

Windows 7 is great anyway, so I'd do it if you have the money just kicking around. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.
