Judge gives green light for same-sex marriage in California

Even though I still don't agree the term "marriage" should be used to describe situations like this, I support same sex marriages. It's a right afforded by the constitution and to think we're still debating the issue 40 years after the Civil Rights Movement is - well - absurd to say the least.

Gay peeps are peeps too. I find it ironic that we preach freedom in America but some people still don't have basic rights. While I personally don't agree with it, it's not my life or my decision. People should have the "Freedom" to get married to whomever they want... Sister, brother, same sex member, their dog... whatever, not my life or my decision. I thought that's what this country was all about anyway. Our founding fathers made a nation where every man and woman is guaranteed freedom to live their life as they please. Even if it's the Baptist church that protests military funerals. Like it or not, their freedoms to protest or express their idea's are bled for as well.

I have a few Gay friends and they don't make waves. They live their life just like any other American, are patriotic, want to serve but told they can't. Want to marry who they love but told they can't. And just because I have different likes, I get all those privileges? Who's to say I'm more American or more entitled to freedom than they are? Who's to say I was better to serve in the military? And the logic behind not letting gay people into the military? What would happen if two guys were in a fighting hole? They would be more worried about loving each other than watching the line?? Really? That's what I was literally told once. "Who wants a gay person making moves on you when you're in combat?" I'd think they'd be more worried about the incoming fire... but I guess I'm just retarded huh?

I love this quote and I wish people would be more level headed like you. Sure, believe what you want but separate church and state.

I like Eintsein's words of Wisdom...
“X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut.”

Tolerance isn't about liking what other people do or even agreeing with them. It's about knowing when to shut your mouth and live and let live. There's a lot of things I don't agree with, but I don't get on a soap box about it. Just keep my mouth shut.

Nice jump to assumption there rohan. I knew you wouldn't let us down.

I was being sarcastic. Lighten up. I know your views on this.

You also have to remember not everyone was born into the gender they were supposed to. Girls are born into the bodies of men and vice versa. There shouldn't be any religious counterfire if the person doesn't have religious faith. I know a few gay couples. They function just like people do in a normal relationship. They fight, disagree, etc. I don't see them prancing around singing showtunes in costumes. People need to stop acting like its a disease.

I wouldn't want to have gay guys in the military.. That just wouldn't be cool... Sorry. They would be treated like total shit anways lol. You have no idea

I dont believe in that but all right.

Ummm, not sure what branch you were in, but everyone in the Marines is treated like total crap. Kind of a 'right of passage' thing until you earn your salty status. Once you're salty, regardless of color or creed, you earned your respect. Every Marine is a rifleman first and is treated as just that, a Marine.

Why would that 'not be cool'? It's not like fraternization doesn't already exist between male and female service members... what would be the difference? Are you afraid they'll wear pink uniforms? wtf You have no more right to this land or it's freedoms and responsibilities than anyone else.

Edit: AirForce...

Sure people get treated like crap anyways, but that doesn't change the fact that your normal peers of the same rank will treat you like you think. Trust me, I know how you are thinking, but it just wouldn't work out that awesome for a gay dude.

In Vietnam it didn't work out that great for a black dude either, but many of em bled for the freedom you enjoy.

Edit: Not going to argue the point of the Vietnam war as that wasn't for America's freedom, regardless though, they served in spite of discrimination.

Yeah that must back them for them, but a gay black dude. I'm not going to argue. I'm just saying thats just how it would be. Be upset all you want. It might be a long time before I can see it being expected here. Sooner for the Navy. Lol I just made a Navy joke

Who's upset? I make the simple arguement that regardless of color or creed, service to ANY country should be allowed and encouraged.

Well okay lets say this. The only way I can really see it fair is to having gay people in the military is to really just dump everyone in. Right now, how strict things are a woman can fuck up your career very easy just by looking at her in a certain way. Whos the say some guy in the shower gives you the same look and what? You can't be a offended by it and can't kill there career. Espiecally deployment. You can't even be in the same room as a chick, can do anything sexual. How is that going to work with gay dudes. Seperate them. Keep them from doing that. Last week, this super hot girl got caught by her room mate having sex with this dude. Things are very bad for her right now.
I'm not good at getting my point across, I really suck at communicating.
But I hope you get what I mean. So yeah, if anything I believe the only way for it to work is to unisex shit for fairness.

Actually, I'm not going against your support I do support this cause, but the job of the government is also to uphold the morals of the community based on the discretion of the courts. Such as making it illegal for bestiality, children pornography, public lewdness, sodomy, ect. None of the above may cause physical harm, damage, endangerment but still the government intervenes. NOT saying homosexuality is the exact same as above, but in terms of morals being gay can be considered lowering community standards.

But community standards is also up to the discretion of the courts. Standards are not the same in 1850 and 2010. So yes there is separation of church and state. But our standards and morality are based upon religious foundations. It really is up to the American people to decide if Gay Marriage should be something allowed.

Personally I believe our right to privacy intervenes much more than the governments job to uphold community morals
