Even though I still don't agree the term "marriage" should be used to describe situations like this, I support same sex marriages. It's a right afforded by the constitution and to think we're still debating the issue 40 years after the Civil Rights Movement is - well - absurd to say the least.
Gay peeps are peeps too. I find it ironic that we preach freedom in America but some people still don't have basic rights. While I personally don't agree with it, it's not my life or my decision. People should have the "Freedom" to get married to whomever they want... Sister, brother, same sex member, their dog... whatever, not my life or my decision. I thought that's what this country was all about anyway. Our founding fathers made a nation where every man and woman is guaranteed freedom to live their life as they please. Even if it's the Baptist church that protests military funerals. Like it or not, their freedoms to protest or express their idea's are bled for as well.
I have a few Gay friends and they don't make waves. They live their life just like any other American, are patriotic, want to serve but told they can't. Want to marry who they love but told they can't. And just because I have different likes, I get all those privileges? Who's to say I'm more American or more entitled to freedom than they are? Who's to say I was better to serve in the military? And the logic behind not letting gay people into the military? What would happen if two guys were in a fighting hole? They would be more worried about loving each other than watching the line?? Really? That's what I was literally told once. "Who wants a gay person making moves on you when you're in combat?" I'd think they'd be more worried about the incoming fire... but I guess I'm just retarded huh?
I love this quote and I wish people would be more level headed like you. Sure, believe what you want but separate church and state.
I like Eintsein's words of Wisdom...
“X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut.â€
Tolerance isn't about liking what other people do or even agreeing with them. It's about knowing when to shut your mouth and live and let live. There's a lot of things I don't agree with, but I don't get on a soap box about it. Just keep my mouth shut.
