Gaming Build Problems

Hello,

First off, this is my first post, and I'm usually not the sort to ask for help on a first post, but I really need the help!

I'm building a cheap gaming rig. As cheap as I could make it. All the parts were $370 then another $100 for Windows 7. Anyway, the build is nearly done, one thing stands in my way, the optical drive.

I have hooked up DVD drives many a time, this one is weird though, it has a port for a cable unlike any I've ever seen. It didn't come with any cables either.

Here are two pics of what I'm talking about, I'm sorry for the bad lighting and extreme blurs, it's hard to shoot inside a case.

DVD Drive:

Normal Optical cable: ( IDE I think??)

Please let me know your thoughts on this, It means a lot! Thanks!!

What you have there is an optical drive with a SATA interface. So you will need SATA cables to connect it to your motherboard.

Hey,

thanks man! I didn't know Optical drives could be SATA. Thanks a bunch!! I will get the cable and my rig will be done soon, you rock man!!

As an added bit of info, pretty much everything is SATA these days - most new motherboards don't even have IDE connectors. It started off just with hard drives because they were the devices that had the most benefit with the speed increase, but these days pretty much everything uses it. :)

Thanks for the info man,

I guess I have been out of the loop for awhile now. I also work with older computers a lot, I didn't build my main computer this time around. Anyway, I appreciate it!
