I need help deciding between processors i am on a tight budget but i need a new processor the choices are:

or this one :

now the dual core one is cheaper but only a dual core but i have heard good things about this processor and the fact you have the possibility to unlock the extra cores. But also with the quad im guaranteed a quad core but the thing is i am on a tight budget so i was thinking should i go with the dual core phenom and put the extra 60 bucks toward my GPU or what?

Personally, I think it depends on what you need it to do.

Which begs the question, what do you plan on using this for?

pretty much everything from games to general use im not gunna be doing any video editing or encoding really and if i do it wont be much but mainly just games and average use, also ive heard that the dual core phenom is a great overclocker.

after doing some reading ive decided to go with this

sure it doesnt have L3 cache but after reading some reviews and such im just gunna get this one and later on down the road get an after market cooler and OC it but anything should be an upgrade from my athlon 240 regor

if thats what your going to go with, get the combo deal http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.412230 to save some money, brings down the price of the cpu

That Athlon II X4 is a great little CPU. A friend of mine built one for a customer and showed me the benchmarks and his impressions of it. You'll be happy with it as a "for now" CPU.
