Tips on building my first pc

I have the build I think I'm happy with. My only concern now (I hope, at least) is that I can't decide between two motherboards, and I hope you guys can recommend which of the two you would get, as well as any other thoughts on my final build. I definitely feel like the motherboard is the weakest part of my build, in terms of what I have done research-wise, and confidence in my choice. It might be a great part, but I'm not sure, and I don't know how to verify that.

All prices are in USD

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition - $159.99
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3-1333 - $99.99
Motherboard 1: ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 - $109.99
Motherboard 2: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890GX - $139.99
GPU: XFX Radeon HD 5870 1GB - $379.99
HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB - $79.99
PSU: Corsair 650w -$89.99
Case: Cooler Master HAF X - $199.99
DVD: Sony Optiarc Black 24X - $20.99
Monitor: Razer Arctosa (Silver) - $49.99
Mouse: Razer Spectre - $79.99

Total: $1460.89 or $1490.89

This budget is just about perfect for me, as it leaves me enough to pick up Windows 7 with my student discount.

Please, let me know if there are any changes you would make to the build! Otherwise I should be ordering it in the next few days.

The ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 is a great board that OC's very well and has a great price. The MSI 790FX-GD70 is a little pricer but believe it or not it too is worth the money and OC's a little bit better.

So do you think that I should go for the 790fx? It's almost $30 more than the one I have now...this is starting to get above my budget. I was hoping to get $1500 for everything, and if I do that upgrade + windows 7 I'm going to be talking about over $1600. What if I drop the GPU down to a 5850?

The MSI 790FX-GD70 board is great if your going to OC and want to get that little bit extra from your CPU.

Instead of dropping the GPU stick with the ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 and the HD5870.

You would save if you go 5770 is crossfire configuration

1.you get more budget even if you buy the best 5770's cards (vaporx, hawk, oced gigabyte)
2.you get better fps then 1x 5870

its only shows 5750 in cf and it is like 3 frames behind 5870
because 5770 is better then the 5750 that means
5770 in cf will definitely out perform it
