Dynex simply isn't reliable. Do a search on AVSForum.com

Stick with known brands like Sony or Samsung. I've suggested this method to everyone else and it hasn't veered them wrong - including myself.

I did a quick search on the forum you mentioned, and it looks to me like everyone who has never had one claims they are unreliable, but people who actually own them love them. The only real complaints I see are about the audio quality, which isn't a problem because we aren't gonna use the built in speakers.

And if it dies, it seems to have one of the best warranties out of all the tv brands. Best Buy will send a technician to our house to check it out, and if it is totally dead, they'll take it in and give us a new one.

lol. "technician" and "check it out" in the same sentence as Best Buy.

Fine. Buy it.

Wanna take bets on how long it'll last? :D

This is why you forgo that BS warranty and use THAT extra money on getting a reputable TV. Duh.

Budget: 400-500$
Size wanted: 40"
Extended warranty: 30$
Sony: +1'ing the federal budget deficit in cost.

Honestly, I don't really care either way, but a decent TV does exist other than the large brands. Don't get me wrong, I buy nothing but the best for my rig, but I also have an unusually large budget for that. When the budget is low, you cut costs a bit.

Your reply: "Save more money on the side, you've already saved this much".

While that is easy to say, not everyone is in the best financial state. Whether his family is or not, they may not want to spend more than 500 because they think it's ridiculous.

Maybe it would be best then to help him find a deal on what he is looking for, in the price range he has stated.

I'd offer some assistance, but I'm certainly no specialist for televisions like you are, J. I just know a good monitor when I see one xD.

Foot, I think you need to tell your mom 1) up the budget by $150 or 2) lower the screen size to 32". These seem like the only feasible options to get a decent quality TV.

I know that I got my 32" LCD 1080p Panasonic for $420. It is simply amazing. That took a lot of research and hard work to find, but it paid off. And it's plenty big.

Man, L4D2 seems decent so far. got some interesting hardcore gore vids coming along. need to find a way to spice together multiple 2 min MPEG4 vids together into a sort of colage. i am horrible with video editing. Tips?

Rather just make a few vids, and put them together into a 10 min video. so i dont have multiple 2 min vids on my youtube page..
