I've gotten my share of black eyes from firearms. And lumps on my forehead.
It not a matter of being a wimp. It's a matter of being cramped in your firing position. Sometimes it can't be helped. But any time I came away with a black eye some bad guy was lying down bleeding to death or already dead. So the trade off was fine with me.
