Oh crap! I think this applies to my laptop! I have the DV6700. My battery doesn't get hot or anything. Hope my battery doesn't explode or catch fire. Will HP or the store you bought from contact you if the battery is one that's on the recall? I haven't actually taken the battery out and checked the bar code yet.

Looks like my battery is one of the affected ones. But what I don't understand is how does the general public get notified that their laptop has a battery with a potential overheating issue? I mean I found out through pc world's daily email I get but not everyone subscribes to tech newsletters.

These recall's are more for covering there own arse i think. If something does happen (Say for instance your battery blew up) and the company hadnt issued a recall,then you could sue them.

If they DID a recall on those batteries before it exploded and you didn't know about it and your battery happends to explode,you couldnt sue them on the grounds that the company made it public and the public has the responsibillity to get the battery repaired/replaced by HP.

Also i think if you had registered your laptop with HP they would have sent you an email and it's probably on there website too.
