On a strict budget with no job. Got some money for my birthday and I would like to dedicate my laptop for ONLY school. No more games, junk, movies, etc on it.

I can afford around $500 for a new build.
I will not be needing a case, HDD, OS or GPU(S).
Will buy a power supply from Best Buy unless I can find one on Newegg for around $50 that is a reputable brand. Need around 500 watts to be safe.
I have 1 3870 and 2 9600GT's I can use in SLI/single. I will mostly be playing World Of Warcraft. It's not a big deal for me to have the best GPU right now. Will most probably be throwing in a little counter strike source here and there. Will upgrade GPU down the line.

Idea one.
AMD x6 build. Just really need a CPU, mainboard and RAM. Should be doable for around $450, right? Don't worry about getting an SLI capable board. I can always just use one card.

Idea two.
I have a 750i SLI FTW laying around. Why not pick up a cheap Core 2 Quad and throw it in there? Should last a while for just playing basic games. I still would like to believe that the C2Q series are still more than capable for many things.

Discuss.

I'd be tempted to save your money here, get hold of a nice C2Q and plonk it in the 750i SLI. Get a nice heat sink and OC it a little. Doing this will cost a lot less than $500.

If you go for an AMD rig consider these:

ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 Mobo new/Open box
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T CPU
CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1600Mhz RAM

$495 with Open Box mobo.

Just talked to my friend and he wants to buy my 360. I might just wait a month and save some money up first.
