external laptop hard drive

I have a 44 pin labtop hard drive that i want to connect to my desktop computer.

I do have usb 2.0 to IDE & SATA ADAPTOR.... I have the usb connected to my desktop , my external labtop HDD is connected to this adaptor .

All im seeing is USB MASS STORAGE come up in device manager, i dont see the actual drive in my computer.

I have tried Master, slave, cable select , and no shunt .

The drive letter isnt appearing on my computer but i do see the usb hard drve was recognized as USB MASS STORAGE.

I'd buy a 3.5" to 5.25" bracket and connect it directly to the motherboard. I gather it's a PATA interface?
