Just noticed my modem is overheating. Any suggestions? Modem is under a year old dont know if its because I had a Cartmen doll on it or what lol:)

Is it truly overheating or is it just hot? I mean, what makes you say it's overheating?

Your modem is "burning hot"? That's not normal. They shouldn't even be very warm. Some routers have been knwon to get fairly warm with use. It sounds like it's time for an RMA or return for a new one.

Some extra info;

Modem Brand/Make: Actiontec M100

Wireless Adapter: Yes, USB attachment

Position: on side, one side vent

In use for less then a year.

Yup. Definitely shouldn't be "burning hot". Warm is fine, my modem and router both run warm, but I could leave my hand on there all day. If it's burning hot, AR is correct. Time to get a new one or RMA.

honestly, i thought this was a joke? lol.

but what i do is put my modem so my rear fans on my case blow across it to keep it cool just incase since its on lease from Comcast..

I just went over and touched my modem and router and they are both slightly warm. Burning hot is not normal. Make sure that if it has air vents you don't block them and try to keep it in the open air.

Or maybe there is something wrong with it that makes it get real hot. Do some research on your make and model and see if anyone else has that problem.

Sometimes my modem gets super hot. Right now it's just warm but earlier today it stopped working. I power cycled, nothing. Unplugged it, waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in, nothing. Let it sit for 20 minutes, plugged it in and it worked fine. My old modem ran pretty warm as well. Both my current and previous modems are made by Ambit.
