I'm about to buy a laptop for use on the internet, scanning, printing, and webcam. What would the difference in performance be between 2 MB and 4MB in these respects and others?

It's most likely 2GB and 4GB that he means. if he really means MB, wer're talking 1980's stuff...

Anyways, 4GB is much more performant than 2GB, as it can hold more memory from programs, and can avoid a bigger slow down.

If you're talking GB as in term of ram, it depends what you're doing and the OS. For Win7 I would recommend 4gb, but for xp even 1gb will do just fine as long as you aren't doing any hardcore gaming (Crysis, Call Of Duty, etc.) or editing.

If it's MB as in cache on the CPU, I would have to see what processors they are to tell if it makes a difference.
