A long while ago, I've seen a documentary of the man who invented spam...I cursed him for a good 15 minutes...am I nice or what?

I think that if something is to be done, it's going to need to a a raft of small measures, carrots and sticks...
I've just moved yet another piece of spam that a certain computer company going by the name of central has put here, perhaps we should be using the keyword filter to ruin the effect of some of the spam seen here.
I wonder if there is a way that the keyword filter could be modified to instead of search replace text it could just not let you post if you had certain text in the post, -this would let us get rid of a lot of spam...
and to be fair most of us don't actually talk about porn, or viagra, or indeed little known unheard of supply shops.
I think that what we need to be looking for here is little return, big investment ideas.

That's some serious coding or a human did a dozen, to work around any rules for links in the members under 13 posts.
Although legit, they sound kinky. I'll keep an eye out on that.
Have you been banning the spammers? I've moved a few lately that have spammed before and hadn't been banned so someone isn't banning. I'll look at their post count and check the other posts they've made and clean up that spam too, stuff that sometimes hasn't been reported yet.
But yeah, I've been doing my part to help with the spam problem on CF, and you guys (the members) help us a lot too by reporting them and we thank you for that since we can't find it all on our own.
Spammers are getting smarter and finding out ways to get around the measures that forums have in place to stop the spam, you have to be on your toes and be aware of what they are doing. Honestly, like I said before, I don't think there is a lot more we could do other than add more mods and keep doing what we are doing to clean up the spam. And of course relying on the members to report it.

Nope, not coding. It only takes a few minutes to post up a few three or four word replies to threads to get around a thread limit.
I like the idea of keywords (though perhaps turn off the keyword filtering when the user has a certain level of rep? Rep unlike post count is difficult to get up for a spammer, whether automated or legit.)
"WOW gold" seems to be another common phrase used... And as I mentioned previously I've yet to see a genuine first post that's used an image (though lots of spam posts seem to, and the content isn't always what we want to see!)

I hope there's a master list of keywords somewhere. Judging from the amount of different types of spam we have removed lately, it would be a major pain to have to make one up. . .
