New build. ordering tomorrow. opinions?

When I was running W7, it never used more than 1GB. When I ran as many programs as possible, and fired up a game, it hit 3GB barely. Plus, you never want background processes while you are gaming, they kill performance. I see no need to get more than 4GB for a gaming system.

The only reason 6GB is the sweet spot for intel builds is because you can only do 3GB or 6GB and have triple channel, and 3GB is not enough for some people.

So does that mean I can only do 4 or 8gb because I'm using dual channel?

Sort of.

You could do 2x2GB +2x1GB but you will have to make sure the memory is identical in every way possible other than that, and even then it's a bad idea.

Just stick to 4GB or 8GB of identical memory and you will be fine.
