This is for my alienware computer has an ati 5970 and a blue ray player in it

Brother says i should just forget both these and go a HD 1080p tv

I'd go with a big HD TV or a high res. dual monitor set up.

Do not get a TV. There will be a significant screen door effect if you do this.

I recommend ASUS monitors, or this one. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4938558&CatId=3774 I have three of them (the older version of it) and I must say that they are pretty awesome for the price. No stuck/dead pixels on any.

TV's do not make very good monitors, as they have pixels that are spaced farther then on a monitor. Text tends to be difficult to read, and it just does not perform as well as a monitor would for computer tasks.

I would recommend an Asus, Dell, or LG.

That alienware one is overpriced though, like pretty much everything they sell.

Go with the LG you've mentioned. That is a good screen, roomy (I won a Samsung 24") and has a good resolution. Price is good too.
