See, I used to be against it for this very reason. I went with SUSE all the way for newcomers, and Gentoo for the more experienced folk.The ubuntu community is full of stupid fanboys
That said, fanboys in the community or not - for what it is it's a rather good OS. The only reason it's full of fanboys is because you get script kiddies installing it then bragging about the fact they can install linux (still going by the misconception that it's as hard as it was in the last century.) There's some really quite intelligent people out there developing and using it - go by what they say, ignore the fanboys and you can't really go far wrong.
