Windows Vista Problem!!!

ok so I bought a new HP desktop computer last summer. triple core processor. 640GB hard drive . phenom x3 8450. windows vista.

i installed avast security on it right away and I never download music or anything harmful.

the computer is now much slower and I don't know why. One example is when opening a window the animation of the window opening is a little choppy.

also the resolution of the monitor will change randomly and the dimensions as well. also when playing some games the frames per second will be at 100 then suddenly switch to 7 making it unable to play. can anyone help me out with this? thanks so much for any help.

I moved camelia's post.

Because the resolution changes randomly my first instict tells me it's a video card issue. Try updating your video drivers and see if that helps.

ok i'm not that good with computers so how would I update my video drivers?

To find out your video card in Windows XP, right click on My Computer and click on Properties. Then go to the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager. It will be listed under display adapters. Alternatively, go to Start and click on Run and enter in DXDIAG and enter. It should show it under the hardware tab. Both of these ways are accessible under Vista just done a little differently. I think you just need to right click on Computer for Device Manager to show up.
