You know, if I didn't just buy a new board and liquid setup for it, I'd go buy a new 980x.
As others have said. It can definitely support well over 1066MHz. The QPI doesn't have a limitation, so much as the limitation in voltage. Much over 1.66 for RAM will toast the QPI.
