If lack of an atmosphere equated to absolute zero then vacuum tube type picture tubes would be too cold to handle. FYI > They are pumped down to -1 earth atmosphere. The glass would never heat up from the thermal conductivity off of the heater element other wise known at the electron gun. The super cold of the vacuum would keep sucking heat off the glass thus reducing its temp to an un-usable state.
