Ready for something other than Windows

but does it tell you what dvds you need to get certain things or do you have to guess?

I think I will try it then in a vm for now

You just need the first Debian disc. The rest are only if you need some additional tools for programming and running a server. I personally would just get the first disc and if there are any other packages needed, just download them after Debian is installed.

I'm gonna try Debian. I've used Ubuntu off and on and could never add it to a domain. I'll see what happens with Debian. Thanks for the help guys.

YAY

If you want it to look epic cool, install enlightenment (package name is e17 IIRC)

You will have to add their server to the repository list for apt-get or manually install the program. Your choice.

BTW the default e17 skin is pretty meh. Get one with awesome effects. :)

FreeBSD, ReactOS, Sun Solaris are three of various flavors.

RactOS is made as a Windows replacement OS, but it's buggy

I just tried pc bsd which is based on freeBSD in virtualbox but the vbox additions will not install so I am stuck with no internet, no sound and 800x600 res.
