Well, it's time to leave behind the old overclocked PIII as my main machine, and get something NEW!

I was originally going to go for an Intel Pentium 4. Cheap, sorta fast. Nope. Then I decided on a Pentium dual-core. Nope. NOW I KNOW what I'm getting:

AMD Quad-core, 4GB of RAM, Terabyte hard drive, 1GB video card.

Linkage to parts (note: I'm just getting 2GB of RAM and no hard drive to start. I'm pretty stretched for money)

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134751
Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371026
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130250
Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103702
Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125253

hell yeah!

Any ideas/suggestions?

Why are you getting a 1 gig video card?
How big is your monitor, and what's your budget?
I'll whip something up for you.
Few questions:
What size monitor?
What budget?
Any specifics you want your computer to do? (What games? Etc.)
Do you need an OS?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate lying around.

My monitor is currently a HUGE Gateway VX700 (yeah, CRT)

Budget? I have $150 to my name. I'm going to save up.

Games. Oh, geez. MSFS9, NFS:UG2, NSF:UC, MSTS, and who knows what else. Virtual machines, video rendering/editing, music, videos....

Ok that's good you got Windows 7.
How big is the VX700, 17" I thought?
How much do you plan to be your final budget?
Ok games aren't that demanding :)

Yeah, I think 17"... I need an upgrade. To the left of my main monitor I have an IBM PS/2 monitor connected to my 486, and to the right i have an IBM Aptiva monitor connected to my Debian box. Above me I have a TV (OOOLD) and another CRT monitor (Xtreme Flat).

Final budget really depends. I have $170 to my name right now. I'm having a hard time getting a job, but an 800MHz computer that has no internet, can't play any games, and isn't stable enough for me to do any word processing on it is just a dumb box, so i'm not spending a CENT on anything until I get this. I need to hurry, though, because I have a guy holding a Tandy 1400HD for me. I want that laptop :)

OK good luck on the purchase.
Ok when you get enough money and are ready to buy, stop by here and make another thread and we'll help ya out :)
