Ready for something other than Windows

I've used Ubuntu. It's decent enough.

What else ya got?

Also, I'd really like to join it to a Windows Domain, because yes I may get bored at work from time to time...

I've used Suse Linux to connect to shares on a Windows Domain (administrative shares, too). I remember having to log into the share with a valid AD account when connecting, though. I don't think the Linux box was ever "joined" to the Domain. Play with the Samba settings, though. It may be possible.

there other ones besides ubuntu?
I guess you're speaking ironically, but if not, yea there are dozens of versions (or distros) of the linux base all OS ones are free and user developed.
They all offer different advantages/disadvantages

Debian, Fedora, PCBSD, and then there is also Haiku if you really want to try something new.

I personally just settled on Ubuntu. Don't know if I'm keeping it yet.
