well i got this old CMI8738 its up to a 4channel
my the onboard sound of my mobo is Realtek® ALC888S 7.1ch

I kept reading that having a sound card (no matter how old) will save up cpu resources. but then again im no audiophile so i cant identify which would be better of the two.

Bottom line is, i guess, which would give me a better cpu perfomance? will it be worth anything at this point in time?

wonder if a usb sound drive would give a better peformance. just rambling on the possibilities.

Eww, no. That would put all the work on the CPU.

I think you should just use the built in. The sound card is useless.

yes, his old sound card is useless, my X-Fi Platinum is not though, even a cheap 24 bit SB is better than onboard, sound is a hugely overlooked advantage in FPS games, I also have decent headphones which also make a difference, at my age, every little advantage helps...
