My first car was a 1987 Chevy Cavalier hand-me-down from my dad. Slow, no options, not even a tape deck and a little rusty, but it was very reliable and got me where I needed to go. First cars are just something to get you around. Look for a little, cheap, 4 banger to get you around. Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Chevy Cavalier/Cobalt, Dodge Neon, Toyota Corolla.

Nothing special, just something to get from A to B and maybe C on the weekends.

Manual transmissions aren't necessarily more fuel efficient than automatics. It depends on how you drive it. Every time I get a car with a stick I tend to want to drive it like a go-cart.

I was kinda like that when I go my license at 16, I mellowed out now. But man, gotta love the back roads.

What usually makes automatics less efficient is rotating mass. Automatics have more things to spin than a manual and that makes your engine work harder. Rotating mass has a bigger effect than dead weight to an extent.

Back roads are a lot of fun, until you get stuck. That was an effing nightmare.

My car was mad, my parents were madder.

It wasn't even me driving, my friend was giving it a try and the idiot decided to stop accelerating in the middle of a sand pit which I was yelling at him telling him to NOT stop.

Better than getting stuck in a private street the ONE time your dad isn't home with a truck to pull you out. Yea for unplowedness. I had to push the damn thing like 20 feet while my girlfriend rocked it and I tried to not get run over.


Did I mention she is not confident at all at driving, so she was freaking out the whole time (and lots of tire spinning)

I think the only time I ever used my truck's 4x4 mode was to pull out this moron that got his truck stuck in the mud.
