Just got all my parts ordered, I have never assembled a computer. My question is once I get all hardware installed and ready to go do I simply insert my xp disk and it goes from there? Or do I have to go into bios and mess around?

You won't need to go into the BIOS yet.

As long as the machine boots and can access the optical drive and hard drive just pop in the OS disk and install.

time and date is a good idea. I prefer to set it in the BIOS.

Also, you will maybe need to enable boot from the optical drive.

You may never need to go in there at all.

You just need to select to boot from your optical drive for the OS install.

If the OS install goes through ok then your good to go.

I was hoping it would be straight forward, another question, I just bought 4 gigs of ddr2 and I have 2 older sticks totaling 1.5 gig I think they are different mhz than the new 4 gig I bought will they all work together in the new system?

I would think so... are they DDR2?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. But I'm new to this stuff too.

It will work, but will cripple the faster RAM IIRC.

If you have 4GB of high speed RAM, I'd stay with that.
