Hi my current build is:
Mobo: A8N
CPU: AMD x2 4200+ 2.2ghz dual core
GPU: 8800 gts 640mb
MEMORY: 2GB ddr PC 3200 400Mhz two sticks in dual channel mode.
Hard drive: Single 300gb IDE (SATA is an option but not currently in use.

My question is this. I have two more ram sockets available that I want to use. I am installing Vista 64 from 32 and I know that 64 bit version can use more ram than 32. So how much better will it be to buy two more 1GB ram sticks and put them into dual channel when I install vista 64?

I am using this computer to play new games. Should I also upgrade cpu to a higher x2 or something or will the current 2.2ghz dual core be good enough with the ram upgrade?

Hey, Upgradeing the ram would help your computer run alot faster i wouldnt say upgrading the CPU would make alot of diffrence. My computer has 3gb ram and Intel celeron Dual core 2.4ghz and i have no problems running high spec games.

Also installing vista 64bit would make a diffrence on the speed of your computer i would recomend it.

Hope This Helps....

Oh gosh you're still on DDR?

Are you sure your motherboard supports 4GB? I've seen a lot of DDR boards that max at 2.

EDIT: maxxes at 4. you're ok.

I wouldn't invest so much in such an old system though. Socket 939. lol.

I could help you pick newer parts out if you want. A mobo, CPU, RAM swap would be good.

Perhaps on the AM3 platform...

The best you can do is acquire PC4000 500Mhz RAM. But they can be pricey.

And a CPU? An Opteron 185 or FX60. But these are rare.
