As the Cleanfeed Protests go on,it looks like on the 20th of feb Protests are going to appear in most major cities in Australia as well as DDOS Attacks on government Websites.

Discusss.

I've been picking up on a lot of this on Slashdot. It's surprising how bad the UK and Australia is when it comes to free speech and the internet.

The UK is bad for Free Speech? How so?
More of a lack of personal freedoms than free speech. One example would be the amount of cameras. I'm not living in the country so I wouldn't have any personal experience, just the tone of things I've read in the news and on Slashdot.

Just seems like they're trying to keep an eye out for suspicious activities. We all needed to sacrifice some of our personal liberties in order to benefit the general public ever since the widespread terror attacks began occurring around the world.

I agree.
I mean as long as they are not always pointed at your house and watching your every move. I don't see the problem. If they are scanning the neighborhood and they happen to take a few peeks inside your home. Okay, please do it would be good in case of a robbery.

Then again if they are sitting on a telephone pole and are just sitting positioned at my house.. Then I have a problem, because then your not thinking of the benefit of the community as much as just watching what I do.

Well you know, We all want to change the world.

You tell me that it's evolution?

All in all,the cleanfeed is a good idea. Filtering out Child Porn,Terrorism, etc, etc IS a Good idea. The problem is,they want to filter P2P,Certain Movies,Games, etc, etc. Also the alledged 'blacklist' is confidential so (It has been leaked a couple of times though) nobody knows what banned and what's not.

Another thing is,australia's network infrastructure is ancient old hat technology. ADSL2+ Isnt even availible in most rural country areas. Im at work right now and we pay through the nose for 24mbps internet,

due to the fact our nearest exchange is older than me and hasnt been updated for a while, this what we get. This filter is going to slow down the nations internet by a fair bit.
